A fresh outlook on joy, intentions for the New Year and a give away
On New Year’s Day we tried something we’d never done. We looked back and imagined ahead and tried to set some intentions for the year ahead. I’ve done that individually before, but Mark and I aren’t the best of planners and haven’t ever really set intentions for the future, we just kind of live and see where it takes us, so this is a first.
The first part of our process was looking back at what things had brought us the most joy over the past year. Being outside in the forest, camping and spending time being present with my family and friends were at the top of my list. It was a good indicator of what we need to do more of in the coming year because, life is short! Why not do more of what you love? It’s so easy to fall into the trap of forgetting about making time for the moments we love and then living in them as much as we can. Right?! Another thing on my list was photographing people and editing sessions. I was kind of surprised by that. I mean I knew I loved taking and editing photos but didn’t fully realize how much it fulfills me and brings me pleasure. I’ve never had a job that felt so in-line with my sense of being, but there you have it. And SO in 2024 I’d like to re-boot that side of my business as well as pick the camera back up more often in my personal life.
To that end I’ve started a personal 365 project…or maybe it’s a weekly project? I’m not quite sure yet. The last time I did a 365 I think I grew my skills, but I’m certain I got stressed out, and that’s not something I want more of (boo stress!). I ’m going to see how things go and think of it as more of a daily intention than a set goal. As for the business side of life, I want to do more Day in the Life and Newly born sessions, as well as work on my film making skills. And so to meet some new faces, freshen up my portfolio and make some people’s year start out on the right foot I’m having a very special give away.
