A memory quilt is a special type of quilt created using pieces of fabric that hold sentimental value. Letting go of a loved ones clothing can be a very difficult step. A memorial quilts allows those special clothes to be remade into something that can be held onto and wrapped around you to remind you of their love. How it works:
You contact friends and family of recipient and ask them to send you a piece of fabric for the Love Quilt (it can be something from an old item of their clothing, or a fabric they've picked out that makes them think of the person, etc). I recommend having them send you an explanation as well. Once you've collected them all together, you ship them to me to put together into a quilt full of love.

I'd love to work with you! You might have to be a little patient though. I have about a 2 year wait to start working on a project together at the moment (which gives you lots of time to prepare and imagine what you'd like for your quilt). If you're interested in getting on my waitlist you can drop me a line to let me know. There is no commitment to get on the list. I'll take your name, email address and the date you signed on. When I get close to your name I'll drop you a line to see if you're still interested in moving forward. If so you'll be invited to pay a non-refundable $275 retainer and we'll begin the process of working together. If you've changed your mind you can be removed from the list, or if you'd like to wait a little longer I can also move your name down the list and contact you again when I arrive at your name again.

I do have 'rush' openings throughout the year. The additional cost is $500 and it allows you to start working on your quilt now.

Each quilt is completely different.

A basic patchwork involves much less back and forth and can be done relatively quickly. A custom panel on the other hand can take quite a bit longer as we work on a design together and as decisions come up along the way.

The fastest I've completed a quilt was a month, the longest I've worked on a quilt is over 2 years. In a situation like that it's because the person I'm working with is having a tough time making decisions or is so busy in life they've been unable to really focus on what they'd like. And that's ok!

In addition to deciding on the design you'd like, you'll also need to decide on backing fabric and the quilting. It may sound like an easy decision, but especially in the case of a memorial quilt it can be very hard emotionally to make some of these decisions. I aim to be supportive and patient, and do my best to give people the time they need to move through the process.

Occasionally I open up a 'rush' spot. For a $500 fee this allows you to skip the waitlist. I'm only able to do this a few times of year. If it's something you're interested in, please let me know when you contact me to sign on the waitlist.

Each quilt is custom made for you. I've worked with as little as 12 pieces and as many as...well I can't even count how many I've received, but I can say it's a lot. If you only have a few items we can supplement with supplemental fabrics. If you have a lot of fabrics I can use small amounts from each. If there are too many items or a few don't work with the design we come up with I can ship them back to you with your quilt when complete.

Shipping costs are dependent on where you live, what method of shipping you'd like and how much insurance you'd like to have placed on your item when it's returned. Once an item is shipped it is out of my hands and I am not liable for loss or damage in transit. You may have to pay additional customs and duty depending on where you live.

All textiles degrade over time. Keeping your quilt out of direct sunlight and reducing the washing and drying will extend the life of any fabric, including those in your quilt.

I personally wash and dry my quilts in the machine. Traditional quilters recommend only washing your quilt when needed and airing it once a year.

If you want to avoid using a machine to wash your quilt you can wash it by filling your bathtub with water and hand washing with a gentle soap, drain water and rinse until all soap is gone. You can dry it by laying a sheet outside and laying your quilt on top of it to dry in the sun (obviously, not something you can do in the winter months). Whether you dry by machine or by laying flat be very careful when handling your quilt while wet. It is much heavier with water in it and you want to avoid putting any undue stress on the seams.

If you live in the Ottawa, ON area we can arrange for drop off. If not you can ship it via whichever postal service you prefer. I advise against using UPS due to additional fees they charge.

I personally use DHI through Costco's Shiptime partnership.

If you live in Canada you can pay through an e-transfer.

If you are in the United States or elsewhere, you can pay via credit card or your through Paypal (there is a 3% surcharge).
